Congratulations are in order to several world language
students from North Little Rock High School East Campus who attended the 2008
National Spanish Examinations held in April.
Students from East Campus earned a total of 18 awards – one
Silver, five Bronze, and twelve Blue placements – along with honorable mentions. “
Attaining any placement or honorable mention for any student
on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna,
national director of the exams. “The exams are the largest of their kind in the
United States with well over 106,000 students participating in 2008.”
Students from East Campus have a long history of high achievement
on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers, Nancy Brinkley, Anne
Taulbee, and Majoice Thomas. Almost 125
students from Spanish I and Spanish II participated in the exam.
Students receiving awards are:
Diana Lopez, 1st Place Bilingual
Ismarai Gutierrez, 2nd Place Bilingual
Alexa Mena and Joaquin Medina, 4th Place Bilingual
For non native speakers:
Dong Tang, 1st ranked Bronze
Katie Midkiff, 2nd ranked Bronze
Blake Tierney, 3rd ranked Bronze
Kaitlyn Reeves, 4th ranked Bronze

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year
in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of
Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
