Ward 1 CDBG Meeting Summary |

Here is a brief summary from Tuesday evening's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) meeting for Ward I. The CDBG is a broad spectrum block grant from the federall government designed to provide decent affordable housing, to provide services to lower-income areas, and create jobs. The CDBG meeting in Ward I was run by Mary Beth Bowman and Debi Ross. The following is a summary of citizen imput and suggested uses for the CDBG funds:
- Continue current civil improvement projects funded from previous CDBG grants, including upgrading sidewalks on Locust Street and completing the sidewalks on 34th St and the crossstreets between 33rd St. and 35th St.

- A representative of the Midcity Neighborhood Association requested improvements to the sidewalks on Pershing
- A representative from Carelink made 2 requests - $25,000 to
continue to maintain the Meals-On-Wheels services for North Little Rock
residents, Meals-On-Wheels have suffered from the increased prices of food and gas.
- The second request made by Carelink was for a $100,000 grant to
help fund the purchase of kitchen equipment for a new $3,000,000
facility they are planning to build in North Little Rock at an
undisclosed location. The facility will increase thier capacity to
provide hot meals for the elderly community they serve as well as a 50
person adult day-care facility for seniors.
