The Neighbors United for Levy (NUFL) held thier monthly meeting last night, Aug. 4th, at the North Heights Rec Center. There were almost 30 members in attendance, including both Aldermen for Ward 3, John Parker and Cary Gaines. The featured speakers were Brandon Bennet, a police officer who works in and is also a resident of Levy, and Ron Treat the Levy area representative on the North Little Rock School Board.

Officer Bennet gave the Police Bulletin:
- Large increase in burglaries and aggravated roberies in the area, especially after midnight
- The Police Dept. created a special project team with two officers who focus on problem houses
- Announced that the police department is actively improving its community relations across the City
- Announced armed robberies at 47th and Camp involving 2 men with masks. They are actively working to finalize the case
- Curfew Enforcement has been producing results recently
Ron Treat discussed the School Board:
- Discussed the new federal mandates for improved facilities and lack of possible sites for school rebuilding
- Mentioned the lack of growth in the NLR school population, and
the possible addition of a charter school in Rose City to help attract
new students (and funds)
- Concerning the closing of the lawsuit between the City and the
State and the ensuing loss of funds, he stated that th school district
was trying to negotiate with the state to gradually fade out the funds
from the settlement
- Discussed need for more minority teachers
After the speakers concluded the Alderman were invited to speak. Cary
Gaines gave a notice for his town hall meeting on Oct. 23rd. John Parker
stated that concerns about copper thefts will be addressed at an
upcoming council meeting and that he intends follow Little Rock's lead
in changing the laws. In other news Bruce Foutch announced his
candidacy for the upcoming Ward 3 Alderman seat.
