James Dale McElhanon
October 04, 1930 - August 03, 2008
James Dale McElhanon, 77, of North Little Rock passed away on Sunday,
August 3rd, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. James was born on
October 4, 1930 to the late Clyde and Mattie McElhanon in Okalona,
Arkansas. He served in the Navy from 1951-1954. James married the love
of his life, Shirley Loveless on July 23, 1955 and for over 40 years
they owned and operated McElhanon Insurance Agency. James was very
active in the community and served as the president of the Lions Club
in 1975 and was active in coaching Youth Sports. He was a member of
Levy Baptist Church for over 50 years. James was an avid and
accomplished golfer and won many tournaments in the Central Arkansas
area. He also loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time planting
flowers and gardening. He and Shirley traveled extensively after
retiring.
James was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Steven Zachary McElhanon.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, two sons Randy ( Paula) McElhanon
of Sherwood and Steve (Kebby) McElhanon of Savannah Georgia, three
grandchildren Elliot Jackson, Madeline Olivia and Haley Grace, a
brother Joe (Betty) McElhanon of North Little Rock and a host of
friends and extended family all who will miss him dearly.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 at 10:00 A.M.
in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home. Burial will
follow in Rest Hills Memorial Park with Brother Steven Tiner and
Brother Paul Holderfield, Jr, officiating. Pallbearers will be Elliot
McElhanon, Mike Childers, Gordon Childers, Marshal Ross, Bobby Eubanks
and Gregg McElhanon. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Park Hill Baptist
Church Coffee Group.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 at
Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home 7724 Landers Road North Little
