It looks like the NLR Airport may be having some issues with the FAA concerning the proposed construction of some new T-Hangars at the airport. This according to an e-mail conversation held between NLR airport consultant, Mike H. Stengel with Garver Engineers and Glen Boles, the FAA program manager, during early June '06.
More on the jump
It appears the airport may be proposing to build these new hangars on an apron area, a paved aircraft parking area, possibly funded with federal money. That being the case, before the FAA
will consider allowing the airport to build on the apron, the Airport
needs to write them a formal proposal addressing:
- what changes have occured in the airport's use patternsuch that the apron is no longer needed for it's intended use?
- has the proposal been formally conducted at the local level and where that occured?
- what is the impact to the existing airport users?
- what is the impact on forecasted operations?
And then the FAA specified that the NLR Airport needs to confirm that
there has not been any federal investment on the portion of the apron
that will no longer be available for public use and asked them to
document the extent of previously funded grants to improve another
apron on the airfield.
It would appear that on this problem and the Hartwick hangar problem reported here recently, the NLR Airport may have issues in understanding and communicating with the FAA. Perhaps the new airport consultant hired by the City for about $35,000, can help straighten out these issues.
