Charles Robert James
March 16th, 1918 to August 8th, 2008

Charles Robert (Bob) James, age 90, of North Little Rock passed away August 8, 2008. Born March 6, 1918 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Reverend Frank L. and Mildred James, he was a factory trained technician for the Underwood Typewriter Co. before volunteering for the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet. He won his wings and commission as a 2nd Lt. before spending six months in C-47 twin engine training, dropping paratroops and towing gliders. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, flying many missions from Australia to the Philippines and many Islands in between.

Upon returning from the war he married Mary Virginia Morgan in 1945. In 1947 he and his brother Bill opened James Bros. Office Supply store in North Little Rock which they operated for 44 years before selling in 1991.

Bob was Charter President of the Park Hill Lions Club in 1959 and in 1970 he was elected District Governor in Arkansas for Lion International and was installed in Tokyo, Japan. He served on the Board of Directors of Arkansas Enterprises for the Blind and of Mid-South Lions Sight Service in Memphis.

He and his wife were Charter members of Park Hill Christian Church where he went on to serve as a Deacon, Elder, Board Chairman. and Trustee. At the time of his death he was Elder Emeritus. He enjoyed travel, golf and puttering.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Tommy; brother, Bill; survived by his loving wife Mary Virginia; daughter, Kay of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter-in-law Deborah James; grandsons Steven and Gregory all of Ga.; sister-in-law, Kathryn James of North Little Rock; nieces, Janet Robb and Susan Hardman of Little Rock.

Deep appreciation is given to Dr. James Suen, Dr. Anna Marie Maddox and staff at Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute for their commitment and care for a number of years. The family would appreciate memorials to

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2008 at Park Hill Christian Church, 4400, JFK Blvd., North Little Rock, with Reverend Miles Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Hill Memorial Park, Landers Rd. in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the Roller-Owens Funeral Home.
