THV did a story yesterday where they spoke with the North Little Rock Police department about their need for bilingual spanish interpreters to help solve a shooting on Monday in Baring Park. Here's a quote from the article "Within the last numerous years, there's been an influx of Hispanics into central Arkansas and a lot of times when were working investigations, it's very difficult to communicate," Hastings explains.

Feel free to put all your comments about illegal immigration, the english language, and border controls here. Maybe I'll work up on op-ed piece on it.

I have accepted our new Latino neighbors with open arms. The problem is the language barrier. I've taken hours of Spanish, and unless I use it daily, I forget my words.

I wish I could attend a convenient area near Levy, one of the highest Latino communities, and at decent times. I work, as many others do. I have even attempted to have a class at the North Hgts Rec center, but no one signed up. I had a couple of interpreters ready to help.

I don't know what the cure is for my dilema. I am willing to pay a fee, but I'd rather have something free so a lot of us could attend, both Hispanic and English speaking students.

Maybe I've been talking to the wrong people, but I'd like to know why the Mexican Consulate, etc. hasn't offered such classes. I haven't heard of any.

Thanks.
