Dogtown Wire

About Us PDF Print E-mail
With Dogtown Wire becoming the first independent, electronically published local newspaper and discussion site in North Little Rock, the task of explaining why we decided to take on this new venture is daunting.

We decided the time was right to take a leap of faith and launch a fresh way to distribute the news, information and discussion the residents of North Little Rock want and need. We say fresh because it isn’t a new or innovative method of putting out the news, electronically submitted news is everywhere, but a news source dedicated to our city from as many sources as possible on a daily basis is a fresh first.

We believe that the technology of the Internet could be used to begin a more up-to-the-minute news and discussion source, and the passion to make it happen.

Our true strength will be the ability to change the way we present the news, information and discussion you want. We want to provide as much news as we can find on a daily basis about North Little Rock, so you can find whatever you are looking for here. What we want your opinions and suggestions as to how we are doing. If you see ways we can do this better – tell us – we will listen and try to apply those suggestions to better serve you.

The comment section will be essential for the success. However, we will not accept anonymous comments. As is done in letters to the editor in newspapers we would prefer commenting be done with your real name, but we will accept screen names. There is a two-fold reason for this. If you feel it is worth the time you take to write a comment, we feel it is worth being identified by your comments so fellow readers can come to know each other and their stands on issues.

Comments will be monitored to ensure they are on topic for the story being discussed. Latitude will be allowed for the discussion, but crude and inappropriate language choices will not be allowed. Colorful, humorous, or artful satiric language will be accepted, with discretion the key determiner for it being allowed.

Side-by-side with the hard news content, we want and need community correspondents to bring their voices to the screen. The posting below discusses the procedure for anyone interested in trying their hand at writing for the Wire.

The bulldog as a symbol was chosen simply to represent a desire for Dogtown Wire to be a journalistic watchdog in the truest tradition of our First Amendment that guarantees our freedom of the press. The keyboard in the bulldog’s mouth replacing the newspaper symbolism many of us grew up with.

So, we are off and running. We hope you join in the adventure and the fun of being the first in our fine city.

Since Dogtown Wire is a digital media and discussion site, we encourage communication through e-mail. If you want to correspond by fax or telephone, please refer to the information under the "Contact Us" tab at the top of the page.
