The August doldrums apparently have hit all the neighborhood associations. Between the heat, summer season and National Night Out, it appears none of the neighborhood associations thet regularly meet tonight (August 12th) met. Look for things to heat up next month in ALL the neighborhoods with election season
Robbie Nieswanger at Razorback Central, part of the Morning News of Arkansas did a story about a North Little Rock native and Razorback Senior Cornerback, Jamar Love. The story is about his progression during the preseason, and his developing role for the Hog's defense.
To keep from overinflating expectations.. here's the outlook on Love from the official Razorbacks website :
OUTLOOK: Love started two games last year and with the loss of all
four starters in the secondary, he used spring practice to emerge as
the starter at left cornerback heading into the season. He is listed
ahead of senior Shedrick Johnson heading into fall camp. He will also
likely be used on special teams. He had two tackles, both solo stops,
in the Red-White Spring Game. He also had two tackles, one solo and one
assist, in the first major scrimmage of the spring.
There was a shooting last night, Aug. 11th, in Baring Cross, and police are still searching for the three suspects. Officers state that Felipe Feliciano Morales Lopez, 32, is in critical but stable condition monday night after being held up and shot by the three suspects. The preliminary investigation indicates that the three men, at least two of which were armed with handguns, entered the house at 2023 Parker St. after 6 PM and demanded money from Lopez. After taking an unspecified sum of Lopez's cash, one of the suspects fired shots, hitting Lopez, then fled the area on foot.
Thanks to data provided to us we have North Little Rock City funded travel data on five of the eight alderpeople going back several years We have compared the travel data from January 1st 2007 up until May 22, 2008. This period was chosen for a fair comparison between alderpeople, since two of them (Debi Ross & Cary Gaines) did not assume office until January 1st 2007. Alderpeople who have been in office longer have higher travel expenses, however those were not included in this comparision. The majority of these trips were taken in connection with National League of Cities (NLC) events.
The National League of Cities is a resource and advocate for 19,000
cities, towns, and villages, representing more than 218 million
Americans. These trips can be a valuable education tool for alderpeople and your individual alderperson should be able to provide details on what they got of value from these trips.

Lonnie Gibbons, a former television broadcaster here in Central Arkansas was named KATV Arkansan of the week last week. That makes two North Little Rock KATV Arkansans of the Week in the past month. He was selected for his work with the Cancer Fighters Support Group, which meets the first Monday of every month at the Park Hill Baptist Church. While it doesn't come through very well on the KATV web site post without the video, the group is very welcoming and interested in caring for all cancer sufferers. I used to do research in cancer research and I know just how much of an impact cancer can have on people, so it's important to reach out to the community of cancer sufferers. For more information about the group, you can call Park Hill Baptist Church Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 501-753-3413
Read the KTHV story here. Unfortunately, the video link does not appear to work, but the story is still there.
