The opening reception for the North Little Rock High School
senior studio art show and sale, held Thursday night at the Thea Foundation office
at Fourth and Main streets in Argenta, drew some 300 people to mingle with the
student artists and view – as well as buy – their
works, said foundation president Paul Leopoulos.
"The dynamics of last night were amazing," said
Leopoulos in a telephone interview Friday.
Between 55 and 60 pieces of art were sold in the course of the evening. About a
dozen artists had work on display, and the prices ranged from $15 to more than
$150.
Leopoulos said that the senior show was usually held in a
studio classroom at the high school, and traditionally just parents came. But in
light of the nonprofit foundation's recent acquisition of the building, and its
mission to support youth art, it seemed a natural thing to bring the show to
the large, open, high-ceilinged room, with its expansive plate glass windows
overlooking the Fourth and Main intersection.
